O-ring Coating

In dynamic applications, O-ring wear is increased by the frictional resistance of the rubber, which generates frictional heat on the seal. To prevent this, an O-ring coating can be applied over the O-rings. This ensures better performance and longer life of the O-rings.

The coating is simply a protective layer applied over the O-ring. It is mainly used in sealing applications and to isolate and prevent liquids or gases from escaping from mechanical systems.

Coating material

The material of the coating depends on the material of the O-ring; there is a different coating for almost every type of material. These different coatings help to improve material properties and increase service life. Common coatings include; silicone grease, PTFE, Teflon, Molykote and talcum. PTFE is known for its excellent chemical resistance and low coefficient of friction. Silicone coatings are highly resistant to very high temperatures. Flexible coatings can also be applied; this is a substrate that moves, bends and stretches with you.

Preventing ageing

NBR products coated with PTFE are resistant to the effects of ozone and UV radiation, making them ideal for outdoor and electrical applications.

Colour

A range of coatings can be supplied in a choice of RAL colours. This makes it easier to identify different O-rings and also makes the O-rings more visually appealing.
